Longer days. Ideal temperatures. Yep, it’s almost spring! Spring is one of our favorite times of the year. However, spring also means that the heating and cooling needs of your home will fluctuate from one extreme to the other. Get your HVAC unit ready for spring with a few maintenance tasks that will help you achieve optimal results.
Buy a Programmable Thermostat
As the weather gets warmer, it’s likely that you may spend more of your time outside of your home. One way to help get your HVAC unit ready for warmer weather and help reduce your energy costs at the same time is with a programmable thermostat. This will allow you to set the temperature where you want it and program it to come on at different times during the day.
Clean the Outside Coils
The chances are high that your outside unit may be cluttered with the debris from the winter. The frigid temperatures probably kept you indoors and doing as little outdoors as possible. One thing you will want to do is to clean the outside coils of your air conditioning unit for optimal functioning during the spring months.
Test the AC System
You probably haven’t thought about needing cool air in months. When the weather is below freezing, the last thing on your mind is running the air conditioning unit. However, spring may change your temperature focus, and it’s important to ensure your air conditioner will work without any problem.
Simply change the setting on your thermostat from heat to cool and lower the temperature a few degrees. Then you can set back and ensure cooler air is flowing through your air ducts.
Change the Filters
Of course, one of the top ways to improve how well your HVAC performs and lower your cost at the same time is by putting in a new filter. It’s recommended that you change out the old one with a new one a minimum of every three months.
